Trends

There's been a sort of strange trend lately. I've been running into people I knew from 20 years ago lately. "Running into" is sort of all encompassing and not altogether accurate but it's my story, so there.

First there was Dan. He wasn't as much my friend as he was Matt's friend. They went to South America together in 1979 and gave immunizations to the indigenous population. They sort of kept in occasional touch over the years. The last I heard of Dan was that he was living in Houston, had gotten married, and had a 2 year old daughter. I remember this part mostly because I have her picture on a Christmas card - she's 14 now, and has an 11 yo sister. Anyway, I have a Facebook friend that is a virtual friend, because we've not met in person - just in the blogosphere. She posted a status update, and Dan posted a comment. I sent him a message, and we've mostly caught up.

Then, over Christmas, Tricia mentioned that David was back in town. I've known him since jr. high - he was friends with my brother, they were college roommates, and he's also friends with my brother-in-law, Jay, since way back. He had been in Fl. for about 10 years, but has moved back to this area, and is staying with Jay & Jackie. We went over there New Year's Eve, and catching up and talking about old times was WAY too fun!

Then, through Dan, I found Bob. He was Matt's best man in his first wedding, and hung around with us alot back in the day. I hadn't talked to him personally in about 15 years, but he said he had talked to Matt when we were in Mexico. He seems to be doing well now, after some personal struggles. I think we've all had our personal struggles, haven't we? We're going to lunch tomorrow - should be fun!

These have all been in the last month or so. I'm not sure why after all these years, that I would find these people again. Maybe they found me. But, I'm glad to have good friends like them to go with the good friends that I have now.
